Limewash and Venetian plaster are both used for decorative wall finishes, but their ordering calculations are not interchangeable. One product may be sold by liquid volume with area-per-gallon coverage; another may be sold by mass with consumption measured in kilograms per square metre.
Start with the product documentation
The distinction matters most when entering coverage rates. For paint specified in square feet per gallon per coat, multiply wall area by coat count and divide by rated coverage. For plaster specified in kilograms per square metre per layer, convert the project area into square metres first and multiply by the stated consumption and layer count.
Finish appearance does not determine quantity
Neither a product category nor an inspiration photograph tells you its reliable purchasing rate. Manufacturers use different formulations and instructions. Even within the same product family, the specified result and surface can change consumption. Use a small sample area if the product documentation recommends one.
Separate materials from the larger budget
The decorative finish is just one budget line. Record the specified preparation and accessory materials in separate rows and collect labor quotations for the actual room. A lower bucket price can be misleading when one system requires additional components or a different number of site visits.
